At the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, our Master of Health Administration (MHA) program is dedicated to preparing students for meaningful leadership roles in healthcare. A key part of that mission is our Mentorship Program, which pairs students with experienced professionals across the healthcare industry.
The MHA Mentorship Program gives students direct access to industry insight, professional guidance, and personalized career advice throughout their two-year academic journey. Our goal is to help students strengthen their leadership skills and build the confidence they need to navigate complex healthcare environments.
Mentors serve as trusted advisors, offering real-world knowledge and professional perspective. Through structured, goal-driven conversations, mentors help students:
Reflect on and plan their career path
Strengthen communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills
Anticipate and overcome common early-career challenges
Mentors often find the experience just as rewarding—an opportunity to give back and help shape the next generation of healthcare leaders.
The program runs throughout the academic year (September–May), with most sessions scheduled in the late afternoon or early evening to accommodate working professionals. Key components include:
Mentor orientation and kickoff: prep sessions (via Zoom), plus kickoff session
Monthly meetings: approximately hour-long, monthly sessions between mentor and student
Support materials: Conversation guides and prompts to help structure your sessions
Students and mentors are matched based on professional interests, career goals, and background when possible.
To participate, mentors are asked to:
Attend the virtual mentor orientation and kickoff session
Commit to meeting with their assigned student at least eight times during the academic year
Complete a short end-of-year feedback survey (approx. 20 minutes)
