MHA Mentorship Program

Mentorship Built for Real Health Care Careers

Every MHA student is paired with a senior health care professional for one-on-one guidance — real conversations, real industry insight, real momentum toward the career they're building.

Become a Mentor Tips for Students

Why It Matters

Healthcare leadership isn't taught entirely in a classroom. The MHA Mentorship Program pairs students with experienced professionals across the industry, giving them direct access to the kind of perspective, candor, and career advice that only comes from someone who's done the job. The goal: sharper leadership instincts and the confidence to navigate complex healthcare environments from day one.

Role of the Mentor

Mentors aren't lecturers — they're trusted advisors. Through structured, goal-driven conversations, mentors help students:

  • Map out and stress-test their career path
  • Sharpen communication, leadership, and strategic thinking
  • Get ahead of the challenges every early-career healthcare leader faces

Most mentors find it goes both ways — it's a genuine chance to give back and help shape the next generation of healthcare leadership.

Program Format

The program runs September through May, with most sessions scheduled in the late afternoon or early evening to work around busy professional calendars.

Orientation & Kickoff

A short prep session via Zoom, plus a kickoff event.

Monthly Meetings

Roughly an hour, one-on-one, mentor and student.

Support Materials

Conversation guides and prompts so every session has direction.

Pairings are matched on professional interests, career goals, and background whenever possible.

Mentor Expectations

To participate, mentors commit to:

  • Attending the virtual orientation and kickoff session
  • Meeting with their student at least eight times during the academic year
  • Completing a short end-of-year feedback survey (about 20 minutes)
