Capstone Course HCD0901

Following are steps to completing your Capstone project.

  1. IDENTIFY WORKING PROJECT TITLE AND DETERMINE PROJECT DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY
    Fall Term
You will each be contacted to discuss the overall Capstone course requirements and course timeline. Please download this Capstone project proposal form that should be completed and returned. It should include a working project title.

Capstone adviser meeting: during this meeting, you will discuss your draft project, identify your study design and data requirements. Challenges to project implementation should also be addressed. Following this initial contact, you will submit a refined Final Capstone title with project-specific timelines based on the overall Capstone calendar.

  2. REVIEW PROGRESS
    January – March

Three follow-up video conference calls with Michael Pugh will be conducted via ZOOM from January – March to review your progress and provide further guidance. The third call in March will be considered the Final call; however, you may contact the coordinator at any time for assistance during this 5-month period. Additionally, you should meet with your adviser for a minimum of 3 one-hour sessions for continued guidance and review of draft slides.

  3. RECORD VIDEO INTRODUCTION
    April - May

In April you will record a brief 5-10-minute introduction to your project that will be uploaded for your colleagues to view prior to the May presentation. The objective is to allow people to understand the general topic, details about your organization context, and your motivation for conducting the project. This will enable a more efficient use of the 30-minute presentation time and allow you to focus more on the substantive elements of the project.

  4. PRESENTATION OF FINAL CAPSTONE
    May (dates TBD)

You should plan a presentation of no more than 30 minutes with no more than 10 slides. Presentations - Send the Formal (Final) presentation slide deck to Mariana Bernstein 3 days (or designee) prior to your presentation.

  5. CAPSTONE FINAL SUBMISSION
    June

After your presentation and based upon additional feedback received, please make any modifications /additions you need and submit the final presentation deck along with any supporting collateral or summary documents your adviser deems necessary. For instance, if you are creating a business plan, you may need to supply summary data behind the marketing or financial plan (can be added as a slide or other document).
